Dental Implants, Crowns
and Bridges
Where teeth have been badly damaged due to trauma or tooth decay, simple tooth coloured fillings may not be an appropriate or adequate method to restore a tooth to acceptable form and function.
This is where crowns (also called caps) can be used to restore a tooth. Crowns can be made of porcelain, gold or resins and are manufactured in a lab and cemented into place.
Where teeth are missing, dental implants, and in some cases bridges can be employed. Implants are titanium cylinders inserted into the jaws where teeth once were and then crowns fabricated to fit the implant.
Bridges are structures where a gap is bound by teeth and these teeth are used to place an artificial tooth. Bridges come in a number of forms depending on the space needing to be filled.
